Why Nobody Reads This
January 1, 2007
Several reasons.
Nobody needs another blog about web design, css, ad nauseum. There are zillions of ’em out there, and many are much better than this one.
Miss Lily, drw Design's official receptionist
I'm not one of those well-known web design/css gurus who does lovely work for super-prestigious companies and writes books and jets around to all the conferences doing presentations. I'd love to do that. But since nobody reads this, nobody will invite me.
My name is Debra Weiss. I’ve owned drw Design LLC, a web design firm, since 1995. I spend the bulk of my time cranking away, mostly at night, working on projects for small-to-midsize companies nobody’s ever heard of. Fortunately, I manage to support myself fairly well, and maybe some day I’ll hire an actual person to answer the phone.
So Why Bother?
Several reasons!
I work on a lot of projects on a lot of different platforms. I use a wide variety of applications, software, and tools, and I’m always, always learning something new.
I spend a lot of time on support forums, searching in Google, taking tutorials, reading blogs, and tinkering around in my attempt to achieve my perfect vision for each project. That means zero compromising to get the results I’m after. I don’t reach that goal every single time, but I always try.
Because I’ve been at it so long, I have a lot items in my bag ’o tricks. I need a place to stick things when I learn them, so I don’t forget five projects down the line.
I also feel the need to give something back to the web community. I’ve certainly done my share of taking. If I can help just one person figure out something, I will smile. But, since I'm fairly certain nobody will read this, we’ll just have to see about that.
I have a little bet with my friend Waldo, who told me once that if he didn’t blog about something, it didn’t exist. That made me snort out loud. I think it will take months and months before I get a comment. Since I have no clue what a ping or a trackback is, which has something do with it, I think, it’s highly likely that nobody will ever actually read this. Waldo thinks it will take a week or two.

Hi Debra—I guess I’m a nobody who read your blog all the way thru—
I loved your presentation last night and very much like your idea of using RSS on the Neon Guild website or list or whatever
Why not put RSS on this website then I can see updates about your cottage and new pics of Miss Lilly (perhaps answering the phone?) ---
